International Contest: Use your library this summer and win books from Weak Creature Press.

Summertime in our corner of the world generally means a leisurely period during which time you can take yourself down to the local library and sign-up for their reading program. Read X number of books in a set number of weeks or months, and the library may offer incentives to you for doing it. Whether or not your library actively has such a program, we encourage all readers (and Weak Creature Press fans) to participate. In fact, we’ve decided to host an international contest to support library use.

Starting today, June 4th, 2012 and ending Tuesday, September 4th, 2012, all entrants must track the titles they’ve checked out of a library system (“titles” for the purposes of this contest are acceptable in various formats: bound book, e-reader title, book on tape, DVD, or cassette), and provide Weak Creature Press with a copy of said list at contest’s end. Titles read may be part of your library’s summer reading program or simply books you have chosen to read. Participants may e-mail their entry list to weakcreature@aol.com no later than September 8th, 2012. Contest winners shall be notified via e-mail and asked at that time to provide a mailing address to receive their prize. Winners will be announced on September 15th, 2012.

Prizes (6):

 (1) Grand Prize: One person will receive a set of all four titles currently available in the Weak Creature Press catalog: The Corruption of Zachary R., Ghosts in Time and Space, and Poems for Loners, all written by Douglas Richardson, and one copy of Panic Kit, by Laura A. Lionello. (Approximate retail value: $50, US.)

(3) First-Prize: Three individuals will receive their choice of title (one book) from the above list. (Approximate retail value between $11.00 and $15.00, US, depending on winner’s choice.)

(2) Second-Prize: Two individuals will receive a copy of Douglas Richardson’s chapbook “Out in the Cold, Cold Day”, to be reissued later this year in art book format, plus a web voucher entitling them to 25% off a one-time total purchase price via Weak Creature Press itself (not Amazon, nor any other online bookseller, nor brick-and-mortar sales agent).  (Approximate retail value, $5.00, US, plus 25% of total future purchase.)

All prizes are in softcover format, printed in English.

Weak Creature Press respects your right to privacy and will not sell, share, or otherwise abuse the trust placed in us by receipt of your e-mail address, name, and/or physical mailing address.

What a cool idea! And a unique marketing ploy, too…

Thanks, Nancy! Over the weekend I was thinking back on all the good times I had signing up and playing along with my Mom, when we’d just run like kids through a candy store with our library cards, and what a good challenge it was to find new-to-us reading material. I read so many articles about local libraries being forced to reduce service hours across the system or close their doors, and it breaks my heart. So, this was my way of paying it back while paying it forward. –Jen
